What can I do if I don’t have my documents? Will photocopies do?

Your marriage celebrant must sight original copies of all of your documents, so unfortunately, photocopies are not acceptable.

If you were born in Australia, you can obtain a copy of your Birth Certificate (and if applicable, the Death Certificate of former spouse) from the Register of Births, Deaths & Marriages in the capital city of the state in which you were born.
If you have divorced and need a copy of your Divorce Certificate or Decree Absolute, then this can be obtained from the Family Law Court in the state in which the marriage was dissolved.

If I have not sighted all required documentation, prior to the wedding day, the marriage ceremony CANNOT proceed.
